About Us
Handshake is an independent review site for companies that sell their services door to door. We research each company from public records and publish what we find, with a link to the source behind every fact, so you can check a company before you let it in or sign anything.
Handshake started with one category: pest control in the Pacific Northwest. We track companies with a location on file in Washington, Oregon or Idaho, and more companies are added as we finish reviewing them. Each record notes whether the company sells door to door. Each one has a Handshake Score, and you can see them side by side in our Pacific Northwest pest control rankings.
Every company record is built from public sources: state licensing and business registries, Better Business Bureau profiles, Google and other review platforms, court and regulatory records, and the company’s own published terms. Together the records cite 1,312 sources. A verifier then re-checks each fact against its source: so far 2,299 facts checked, 1,753 confirmed, 531 corrected and 7 removed. Records were last verified between October 11, 2026 and October 13, 2026.

The Handshake Score runs from 0 to 10 and is computed only from those sourced facts. It weighs five factors: customer satisfaction (30%), complaint record (20%), sales and contract fairness (20%), licensing and compliance (15%) and legal and regulatory record (15%). Missing information is never counted for or against a company. When a factor can’t be scored, the company’s page says so, and every point added or taken away links to the fact behind it.
Handshake is independent of the companies it covers. No company can pay to be listed, to change its score or rank, or to have a sourced fact removed.
If we get something wrong, tell us. Send the page and the source that shows the correct information, and we’ll fix the page. Companies named in a review can respond, and responses backed by a source are added. Read how we handle corrections, or contact us.
